What does the Bible say about Marriage?

Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman. 2Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband. 3Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband. 4The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife. 5Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency.

1 Corinthians 7:1-5

It says a bit about the topic.

“To avoid fornication,” that is, one of the main reasons for marriage is sex and that should be understood by both parties. “Defraud ye not one another,” that is do not withhold sex from your partner except for serious prayer and fasting.

Marriage is design and supposed to be for life, till death do us part. Therefore, take your time in choosing a partner.

Matthew 19:6 Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.

Marriage is a type or picture of Christ relationship with his Church.

Ephesians 5:30-32 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. 31For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. 32This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.

Marriage and family is an organization with a proper structure. The husband is the head of that organization.

Ephesians 5:33 Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.

The husband is not given authority or right to force a wife to do anything. He is commanded to love her and sacrifice for her, she is commanded to love and obey him. It is for each to obey their own commandments. She is commanded to submit and subject herself to his rule.

Ephesians 5:22-24 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. 23For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. 24Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.

If he is smart, hubby will realize that his best course of action is to make it as easy as possible for the wife to obey her commandments and show his appreciation. She is not a slave or doormat and it is best to let her have her say before any final decisions are made.

Remember, Christ love us first, husbands, you want your wives to love you, love them first.

1 John 4:19 KJV We love him, because he first loved us.

Marriage is:

A man sacrificing himself FOR his wife

A woman giving herself TO her husband.

Ephesians 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

Ephesians 5:22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
