If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
1 John 1:8-10
We realize we are sinners in need of a savior, we believe on Christ Jesus asking God to forgive us unto salvation. The atonement is applied to us, all our sins are paid for and forgiven.
1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
We are no longer dealing with a vengeful God but our Father in heaven. His dealings with his children continue as he wants us to grow up into that perfect man that he created unto good works. But we are weak, he puts us through trials and tribulations to strengthen our faith in him. We fail, we sin. As any father, he wants to hear from his children to know that they know. So, we realize and we admit and ask for forgiveness. The forgiveness is already there, but we need to stand up and do right for our learning and growth.
1 John 2:1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
