Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.

Jeremiah 1:5

Many misread and misinterpret this verse immediately assuming it is speaking of before conception. That is not what it says. “Before I formed thee in the belly”, at the moment of conception you exist as a one-cell organism. Within that cell is all the information about you coded in your DNA. It is estimated that the information in the DNA if written out would fill in the neighborhood of four hundred volumes.

The rest of the verse just explains that God chose Jeremiah for a particular ministry. Do take note though, his ministry is to the “nations” not just Israel. Woven into his writings are many prophetic similitudes.

Hosea 12:10 I have also spoken by the prophets, and I have multiplied visions, and used similitudes, by the ministry of the prophets.
