What is the Golden Rule?

Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38This is the first and great commandment. 39And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 40On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

Matthew 22:37-40

Leave it to man to reject God and throw him out and make the second rule the first. The Golden Rule is actually to love God; the second rule is the Royal Law.

James 2:8 KJV If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:

Some deny the Scriptures are the word of God and attempt to distract from their authority by asserting that the Royal Law was found in history before it was written in the Bible, referring to the New Testament. They use Confucius as their example (551–479 BC). But it was written in the Old Testament long before Confusious was born and I would not be surprised to find that he obtained it from the Hebrew Scriptures.

Leviticus 19:18 Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD.

Leviticus 19:34 But the stranger that dwelleth with you shall be unto you as one born among you, and thou shalt love him as thyself; for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God.

Say not,
I will do so to him as he hath done to me:
I will render to the man according to his work.

Proverbs 24:29
