Why does God give us a measure of faith?

For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.

Romans 12:3

Having the proper translation does make a difference. God is not giving a measure of faith; he has dealt out to every man according to the measure of faith he has. The context is the individual’s position in the body of Christ, what God can use him for.

Romans 12:4-5 For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office: 5So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.

If God needs a Noah, Daniel, or a Job he is not going to choose a Demas.

Ezekiel 14:14 Though these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, they should deliver but their own souls by their righteousness, saith the Lord GOD.

2 Timothy 4:10 For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed unto Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus unto Dalmatia.
