In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
Genesis 1:1
In the first verse of the Bible, if the correct one is used, heaven is singular. God created one heaven and dwelt within it. Certain events took place and God destroyed it. Then, in the process of restoring it, you end Chapter 1 with three heavens. At the end of Revelation, God destroys the three, and a new heaven and earth are created where we come full circle and God dwells within his creation again.
The three heavens are:

Genesis 1:16-17 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. 17 And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth,
Our atmosphere
Genesis 1:20 And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.
And then there is the third heaven above it all.
2 Corinthians 12:2 I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such an one caught up to the third heaven…. How that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter.
Now we see how the astronomical evidence supports the Biblical view of the origin of the world. The details differ, but the essential elements in the astronomical and Biblical accounts of Genesis are the same: the chain of events leading to man commenced suddenly and sharply at a definite moment in time, in a flash of light and energy.
