Ecclesiastes

Is Ecclesiastes 2 saying that scientific wisdom is meaningless since it’s talking “wisdom that is done under the heavens?

The conclusion of Solomon’s search for wisdom provides the answer to the question.

Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. 14For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

The context of Ecclesiastes is the world from man’s perspective of life on earth. It points out the futility of life when God and the spiritual are not considered. We are created beings and whatever we do that leaves out the power of and our duty to God amounts to nothing in the end, all is vanity if not done to the glory of God.

Ecclesiastes 11:9 Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth; and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thine heart, and in the sight of thine eyes: but know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment.

This does not preclude the scientific investigation of creation. God wants man to seek and understand Him through the wonders of His creative work to His glory.

Romans 1:19-20 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. 20For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

The trouble comes when men reject God and the science that points to Him.

Romans 1:21-22 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

1 Timothy 6:20 O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called:

Psalms 19:1 To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handiwork.
