For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
Galatians 5:17
Until the Lord Returns those that have trusted in Christ’s atonement for sins have been cut away from their bodies of flesh by the operation of God but still have to contend with the flesh.
Colossians 2:12 KJV Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.
Colossians 2:11 KJV In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:
Romans 7:18 KJV For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.
There is a battle as to which is going to control your life. The flesh pulls one way, the Spirit the other. We must decide and direct our hearts to follow the Spirit or it will automatically follow the flesh.
