What is the significance of God turning people over to their own sinful desires?

Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: 25Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. 26For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: 27And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

Romans 1:24-27

The crime, “changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator”, having a materialistic worldview, evolution: the willful rejection of God rather than acknowledging him as the Creator of all things. This way of thinking is not new to our millennium, it goes back to the beginning. I will not assert that I understand how our minds work, but it seems that with the fall and corruption of the mind, it holds evil as well as good, depraved as well as virtuous leanings. The conscience would restrain the depraved leanings, however, the conscience can be destroyed.

1 Timothy 4:2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;

One possibility would be that the destruction or removal by God of the conscience leaves only the reprobate. The stated end of which would be homosexuality.

It can be seen today that the further we turn from God, homosexuality increases and inflicts itself upon our nation, as well as many other forms of godlessness.

Genesis 6:11-12 The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. 12And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth.

Psalms 9:17 The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.

I wish harm to no one, but only that all men come to repentance and the knowledge of the saving grace of God.
