What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? 2God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? 3Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? 4Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. 5For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: 6Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. 7For he that is dead is freed from sin.

Romans 6:1-7

When you trusted in Christ Jesus your sins were transferred to him and his righteousness to you. As far as God is concerned our sinful bodies died on the cross with Christ. God reckons us dead to sin so we should reckon ourselves dead to sin and cease from sinning.

Romans 6:11-14 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. 12Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. 13Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. 14For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

We are dead to sin, that is, it has no more power to condemn and damn us without the power of the law.

1 Corinthians 15:56 The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.

Romans 4:15 Because the law worketh wrath: for where no law is, there is no transgression.

Being dead to the law, we are where there is no law. Though we cannot be damn it is not a license to sin. Those that are Christ shall all stand before his judgment seat and give an account.

2 Corinthians 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

The warning that those who have trusted in Christ Jesus will have to appear before his judgment seat is the most important passage in the Bible for the saved. They would live much better lives if they looked in the mirror every morning and reminded themselves that they will have to give an account of this day.
