Abortion is a deeply contentious political issue, evoking strong emotions from all sides, no single response is going to satisfy everyone. The following aims to align the issue with biblical principles and reason. Many arguments stem from emotions that may not always uphold truth consistently over time, as they often lack a foundation in diligent study of God’s word. Those of us who have placed our faith in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ do not seek to establish a kingdom on earth, eliminate sin, or impose righteousness on a world that is lost and fading, our Lord will accomplish this when He returns. Our purpose is to bear witness to God’s saving grace and this mission demands personal sacrifice. I encourage you to review the entire article before forming a judgment.

Politically, our stance is that proponents of abortion rights must justify their claim to this right. Are they suggesting a divine mandate to terminate pregnancies as they choose? There appears to be no revealed basis for such a claim. Alternatively, is it a claim to a natural right? Nature, however, does not confer rights, privileges, or liberties; its law operates on the principle of survival of the fittest, akin to the law of the jungle. In essence, they lack inherent authority for this right and seek validation from government, society, and neighbors. Yet, what is granted by these entities can also be revoked. Therefore, it is incumbent upon them to engage willing to compromise to establish a solution that will lower the tensions and hostilities that currently prevail.

Christianity, though it should be, is not synonymous with biblical truth and the Church is far from being the pure unspotted bride of Christ it is supposed to be. The errors it makes in its teachings cost dearly in the loss of the souls of men. The saints need to do some critical thinking on this issue, getting it wrong will have detrimental effects on our nation and the Church. As I stated, Christianity is not about setting up a moral utopia. The Christian life is about service, sacrifice, and suffering to bring the knowledge of salvation to the lost. Engaging unwisely in political rifts is hardly expedient to that cause.

Philippians 1:29 For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake;

2 Timothy 3:12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.

Rather than suffer for the truth of God’s word we are suffering in battles that should not be. All we are doing by getting involved in them is hurting ourselves and our ability to witness the saving grace of God and, giving the enemies of Christ occasion to blaspheme. David’s sin affected the same.

2 Samuel 12:14 Howbeit, because by this deed thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme, the child also that is born unto thee shall surely die.

Today, the non-biblical view of many “Christians” on the issue of abortion is about to ignite a civil war to which there is no hope of winning. Therefore, it is critical to assess our beliefs on Abortion to ensure that we are on God’s side and fighting the battle according to His rules of engagement. If all “Christians” voted against pro-choice we would not have abortion; if all “Christians” voted as a block we would control the government. Many “Christians” are not living the life of piety we are supposed to and desire to have abortion available if the need arise.

The first rule of sin is that you cannot legislate it out of existence. All that is accomplished if it is attempted to do so is to create an underground industry leading to organized crime. Prohibition and the drug war are compelling witnesses to the truth of this rule. You cannot extinguish sin by legislation, but you can regulate it minimizing its impact on society. The proper way in doing so is what must be determined. Rights, whether divine or constitutional, are never absolute, not our 1st amendment rights nor the right of majority rule.

Behold,
I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves:
be ye therefore wise as serpents,
and harmless as doves.

Matthew 10:16

We are instructed to be wise and not fueling the fire but to find the correct biblical solution, that will be expedient to our mission to witness the grace of God. There is but one way to eliminate abortion, national and personal revival. Remember, you cannot legislate it out of existence.

The debate is not when life begins, biological human life begins at conception. That is indisputable. The question is what franchise on life does a child in the womb possess and when does a child gain full franchise to life?

The main question that needs a biblical answer is what part of the franchise on life does a child in the womb have. This depends largely on whether the biological human life form in the womb is a living soul or not. This bear directly upon the issue of abortion and how we as Christians are supposed to respond; until we answer these questions, we have no idea what we are doing. If we are wrong then we are simply populating Hell with the souls of unwanted children.

Matthew 7:13-14 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

It is irrefutable that at the point of conception the fetus is not just a polyp, a nodule, or a tumor, on a woman’s body but an independent biological human life form. It has at least two-thirds of its trinity: a body and the spirit of life, but does it have the third part; is it a living soul with a full franchise on life?

At conception, the spirit of life is conferred on that single unique cell and it immediately begins to grow and form into a body.

Jeremiah 1:5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.

Psalms 139:16 Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.

Jeremiah is often mis-interpreted to mean before you were in the womb, before conception, God knew us. This is an error in interpretation. It is before God formed us the the womb he knew us and that is because all our members, physical and mental features, were written in God’s book, our DNA.

We have but one reference to a child in the womb becoming a living soul having the full franchise of all the rights of a living human being: that happens at birth when it is separated from the mother.

Genesis 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

If you have trusted in the Lord Jesus Christ, you must yield to the Scriptures on this point. At the first independent breath, a child becomes a living soul, not before.

The Fetus is a physical biological human body endowed with the spirit of life. Not being a living soul till birth the child in the womb is not eligible or in need of salvation nor in any danger of damnation. Upon death it is the same as any dead human body; it returns to the dust from whence it came. This is the big issue with religious thinking that the fetus will suffer eternal damnation if killed. This is not biblically true. If a child dies before it is born it is as if it never was.

Job 3:16 Or as an hidden untimely birth I had not been; as infants which never saw light.

One very important point we must remember as we attempt to correctly divide this issue. There is not one dissenting voice in hell but total absolute unanimity, all would rather have not been conceived or wish they had been aborted than to be suffering the wrath of God burning in Hell for eternity.

Ecclesiastes 4:2-3 Wherefore I praised the dead which are already dead more than the living which are yet alive. 3Yea, better is he than both they, which hath not yet beenwho hath not seen the evil work that is done under the sun.

Therefore, aborted babies are not souls, do not have a franchise on life, and in dying before birth are as if they never were. This would seem a righteous and merciful administration of creation. Having the wrong belief, incorrect understanding of this issue, is tantamount to offering the souls of those saved from abortion on the alter of Baal to be damn. Few of them will find Christ Jesus and salvation. Does this justify abortion? Absolutely not. Abortion is despicable, an abomination. But, no soul is in danger of going to hell.

Do not take this as an endorsement of abortion, but the above does make it so abortion is not murder. It is still wrong, detestable, and an abominable practice. It does make it wrong to use force or color of law under the pretext of preventing murder to end the practice.

The question dealing with abortion has been debated since the inception of the Church. It has been performed in many societies. The only answer is for people to fear God and get saved, which is why we are called to preach the gospel, not engage in social and political battles.

In truth, it is not the business of biblical Christianity to do anything other than live godly, righteously, and holy, and preach the saving grace of God through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Christians are not the world’s police force but its conscience. By participating in unbiblical battles such as active political war against abortion, all we are accomplishing is building up unnecessary animosity, causing God to be blasphemed, and dragging the name of Christ Jesus through the mud. Spiritually, we are doing even worse. We are sending souls to Hell which otherwise would not exist.

“better is he than both they,
which hath not yet been”

“as an hidden untimely birth I had not been;
as infants which never saw light.”

Does this mean we are not to be involved in political discourse, absolutely not. We have the same rights as any other citizen to participate in elections, petition the government, and express our convictions. This must be done in accordance to the Scriptures.

2 Timothy 2:24-26 And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, 25In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; 26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

We are not to engage in street battles, shouting nor threatening. Neither should we impede those who seek abortion. We should engage in peaceful gatherings, come together to petition our representatives, and seek representatives among ourselves.

It seems counterintuitive, but with a little meditation on the issue the mercy of God in this design will be seen. He is not sending the millions of aborted children to Hell, limbo, or anywhere else, and not asking us to physically confront the issue. Do you really want to end abortion; then live for Christ Jesus and minister the word of God’s saving grace to your loved ones, neighbors, and strangers alike, and live and instill morality to our children as part of proper education. In truth, the battle for our schools is more important to the issue of abortion than making it illegal. You cannot stop abortion by legislation. Politically, the best we can do is regulate it:

  1. Ensure the health and safety of those choosing to have one
  2. Remove the added financial gains by forbidding the use or selling of the remains of abortion
  3. Clinics should have all the emergency staff and equipment that a hospital provides, or abortions should be performed in hospitals.
  4. Limit the time period in which an abortion can be performed.

We as Christian are under divine instruction to be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.

Behold,
I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves:
be ye therefore wise as serpents,
and harmless as doves.

Matthew 10:16

Again, it is not our calling to form theocracies. We must not overplay the hand we have in America; or we will only hinder our ability to preach the gospel. The saving of souls is the only way to end abortion. We must compromise and settle for a restriction of abortion that will meet the needs of the lost and hopefully lead to it becoming undesirable.

Limiting the time afforded to perform an abortion to the heartbeat or once a child in the womb reaches a stage where it has a functioning nervous and circulatory system should be sustainable. We did not get where we are now all at once, but the enemies of Christ pick away bit by fit, step by step. It is unreasonable to think it can be reversed all at once. It must be remembered we are not dealing with a soul in danger of damnation; hence we can proceed one step at a time.

It is the responsibility of any woman engaging in sexual relations who does not want children to do all she can to prevent being with child and check herself regularly: weekly, by weekly, depending on her activity, to see if she is pregnant and see that she obtains an abortion in the allotted time.

What exception should be granted to the aforementioned time limits? There should be no need for an exception for rape. If you are raped you are responsible to test yourself each week thereafter to see if you are pregnant and abort within the set time frame. An exception for incest and child abuse which obviously would include all possibilities to hide it. In cases where the abuse and pregnancy would not be discovered within the set time limits an exception should apply.

We must keep our heads keeping our emotions out of the question. Remembering that it is far better not to be born than to be born, die, and burn in hell forever. It is better we should fail to stop an abortion than that we fail to preach the saving grace of God to the lost and let living children die damn.

Ecclesiastes 4:2-3 Wherefore I praised the dead which are already dead more than the living which are yet alive. 3Yea, better is he than both they, which hath not yet been, who hath not seen the evil work that is done under the sun.
